Shelby L. Freda, VMD

Dr. Shelby L. Freda is a General Practitioner from Short Hills, New Jersey, who joined the medical staff of East Side Animal Hospital in August of 2011.

When asked about her early veterinary influences, Dr. Freda says she has been fascinated by animals as far back as she can remember. "At one point, I brought home multiple stray cats from my neighborhood and hid them in our basement, hoping my parents wouldn't notice, but they did, or course," she says.

Now that she is a veterinarian, Dr. Freda says she gains great satisfaction from having the ability to improve the lives of people by caring for the pets that bring them so much unconditional love and loyalty.

For her undergraduate studies, Dr. Freda attended the University of Michigan. During her time in college she started the University's pre-veterinary club. In 2003, she graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Biology. The following year she enrolled in the University of Pennsylvania School of Veterinary Medicine and graduated in 2008 with a Veterinary Medical Doctorate. Her areas of special professional interest are internal medicine and dermatology. She is a member of the American Veterinary Medical Association.

Dr. Freda has a Tortie cat named Pinot that she found stuck in a tree trying to escape a pack of raccoons that had been chasing Pinot. Her interests include biking, rollerblading, skiing, and trying to improve her golf skills.
