From Fashion Avenue to Broadway, mark your calendars for these pet loving events in 2019.


The NY Pet Fashion Show

When: February 7th, 2019, 6-11pm

Where: Hotel Pennsylvania, 401 7th avenue, NYC, NY 10001

This year’s NY Pet Fashion Show is called, The Masquerade Ball: World Fashion to Save our Animals and Honor our Planet.  It benefits the Mayor’s Alliance for Animals and is scheduled to take place February, 7th, 2019 from 6-11pm at the Hotel Pennsylvania.  Hosted by Maria Malito of Q104.3 and celebrity pet expert, Harrison Forbes, the event cat walks a very creative line up of entertainment:

  • Opening Show Introduction, Awards Ceremony Part 1- (7:00-7:15)
  • Hollywood Dreams: from Hollywood to Bollywood (7:15-7:45)
  • Royal Pup-tial Wedding: Meghan Barkle & Harry Prince of Tails (7:45-8:00)
  • Angels & Demons Couture (8:00-8:30)
  • International Masquerade Couture (8:30-9:00)
  • Best in Show Costume Contest – (9:00) Winner Announced at 9:45

All pets attend free and are encouraged by the organizers to ‘dress to impress’.  Ticket information is as follows:

  • Best in Show Costume Contest- includes entry to show- Ticket $95,
  • Pre-Show Single Ticket $50,
  • At Door Single Ticket $60,
  • Reserved table of (4) $300 -Adjacent to Runway!
  • Single Seat Reserved on (10) Top $75 Per Person,

Algonquin Annual Cat Fashion Show and Celebration

When:  TBA, but typically the first Thursday in August

Where: Algonquin hotel, 59 W 44th street, NYC, NY, 10036

Since the 1930’s, eleven rescued cats have called the famous digs at 44th street their home.  It was John Barrymore that fancied the first resident cat, then named Rusty, and decided that the scrappy, streetwise cat, be given the more dignified name of Hamlet, a role for which Barrymore was famous.  Since then, every new male cat is given the same name, but if it’s a girl, as was the last cat to live in the hotel, she is called Matilda.

Every year, to celebrate cats and the long, rich history of the hotel, the Algonquin holds a themed, cat fashion show.  The theme for 2019 has not yet been announced, nor is there a firm date in the books, but typically the party uncorks itself in August.  Last year’s fete celebrated the ‘purring 20’s’ and included:

  • Cocktails, hors d’oeuvres, and desserts
  • Cat fashion show
  • Silent auction featuring a variety of items, including cat travel accessories, and a one-year supply of Merrick cat food
  • Goody bags for all guests
  • On-site mobile adoption unit with cats and kittens available for adoption from Linda’s Cat Assistance

Last year, tickets were $75 dollars, 100% of which went to the Mayor’s Alliance for Animals.



Bark In The Park

When: TBA, but typically held in July

Where: MCU Park, 1904 Surf Ave, Brooklyn, NY 11224

Let’s play ball takes on a richer meaning when hundreds of adoptable dogs show up at MCU’s Coney Island Stadium prior to a baseball game between the Brooklyn Cyclones and an opposing team.  Attendees are treated to a view of all the beautiful dogs available for adoption, a chance to participate in a dog parade around the stadium with their own pets, emergency preparedness training by Ready New York, and lots of free swag.  Like the Algonquin Fashion Show, this year’s Bark In the Park date has not yet been set, but you can keep an eye out for the date by favoriting this url.



When: TBA, but typically in September

Where: Union Square Park, North Plaza, Broadway and East 17th Street, New York, NY

Though the date for this event has yet to be determined, 2019 will mark another amazing Adoptapalooza in NY’s history.  This Union Square event is HUGE.  According to the mayor’s alliance website, Adoptapalooza includes more than 500 adoptable pets and:

  • Lessons to teach your dog (or cat!) tricks
  • Face painting and temporary tattoos for kids
  • Caricature portraits of people and pets
  • Free photos
  • Swag!
  • Free pet food and other samples from pet-related vendors
  • Free veterinary advice from the doctors at Animal Medical Center
  • Take home dog poop bags
  • A chance to meet wildlife experts
  • An insider’s look at how cat rescue organizations manage feral colonies



Broadway Barks

When: TBA, but typically in July

Where: Shubert Alley, NYC, NY, 10036

Started in 1999 by Bernadette Peters and Mary Tyler Moore, Broadway Barks is a celebration/fund raiser that benefits NYC shelters and rescue groups.  The event takes place every July and donations are generated through raffles, the sale of signed memorabilia, and donations from supporters.  Typically held outside on Shubert Alley, attendees enjoy a casual parade of dressed up animals, are introduced to dozens of pets available for adoption, and of course are treated to song and dance by some of Broadway’s most talented actors and actresses.
