Your Puppy Should be Spayed or Neutered
If you purchased your pet in NYC, it should already be spayed or neutered. Spaying or neutering your dog dramatically reduces
- Aggressive tendencies,
- Elimination accidents (pooping or peeing in the apartment)
- Fighting with other dogs
- Straying or running away
- Territorial behavior
- Risk for some cancers
- Risk for some diseases
Your Dog Should be Microchipped
Your pet should also be microchipped. Microchips are 100% safe and are a permanent way to identify your pet as belonging to you. Here is a more extensive paper on why your dog needs to be microchipped. If your dog isn’t microchipped, East Side Animal Hospital can provide you this service.
Proof of Vaccination and Medical Care
Your puppy will need a full examination at East Side Animal Hospital. Bring your pet’s medical records with you along with a stool sample. You can put the stool (poop if you want to get down and dirty about it) in a plastic bag, but if you want a special container, call us up and we’ll be happy to help. Your pet requires a series of vaccines and deworming medications in the initial 16 weeks of its life. Bringing your medical records with us will help us to understand what vaccines and treatments your pet has had to date and will inform our actions at your first visit to East Side.
Your Puppy Requires Training!
We share this city with 8.4 million people and 600,000 dogs! All of us need to be courteous to the needs of others around us. That’s why it’s imperative that you talk to us about your pet’s training needs early on. Dogs that bark a lot, suffer from separation anxiety, that are destructive or aggressive will cause heartache to you, your pet and your neighbors. Make sure you understand what you’re doing with your dog within days of acquiring him or her.
